Maple Glazed (Salted) Chicken

Cooking has never been my field of expertise and probably never will be, but that doesn’t mean I can stop from trying and having fun with it. Sometime experiments can lead to bad things or in my case today bad taste. Today a friend of mine and me did the “Maple Glazed Chicken” experiment for our lunch special. I printed the instructions from the food network website and below is what suppose to look like.

Here the ingredient to make the maple glazed chicken

  • 2 pounds skin-on, bone-in chicken breasts, cut into large chunks
  • Kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 apples (1 red, 1 green), cored and cut into wedges
  • 8 medium shallots, quartered lengthwise
  • 1/4 cup fresh sage, torn
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinega

As you can see the picture from food network look so health and tasty, but our end result can be a bit deceiving. When I read the instruction I got a bit confused when they wrote season the chicken with “salt”, for some ode reason my brain processed as to batter the chicken with salt. We did all the other steps correctly including cooking the chicken itself, which I surprise myself that we didn’t eat anything raw as I look my past cooking failures.

This was our finishing product. As you can see the chicken are cover with a think layer of black glaze, there are not burn mark but instead they are burned sea salt. We totally shock ourself of just how salty the chicken tasted, which follow three bottles of water afterwards. We had the chicken around noon time and I can still taste the salt in my mouth as of right now. One of my new year resolution was try to learn how to cook, and I guess this is my starting point. I hope I do get better as I gain more experience.
